Washington : US allies in the fight against drug trafficking have an uneasy relationship with the US Drug Enforcement Administration, The New York Times reported late Saturday based on leak documents released by website WikiLeaks.
The documents provide details of long-known tensions in the fight against drug trafficking, showing a range of cooperation with US law enforcement from pleas for help from Mexican officials to outright efforts at sabotage in Venezuela and elsewhere, the newspaper said.
Mexican military leaders asked to work more closely with the US agency, saying they did not trust police in their own country, the report said. While, in Venezuela officials tried to hack into US email accounts and infiltrate DEA operations.
The agency also received numerous requests to use its resources to thwart politcal enemies of officials and get involved in local matters in Paraguay, Panama and elsewhere.
