District administration officials will be meeting on Thursday to evolve a solution which may pave way for repairing of the Rumi Gate. The historical gate developed cracks 13 years ago which have now widened. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has requested the district administration to divert traffic before undertaking conservation work. The alternate route offered by the administration along with Tile Wali Masjid did not find favour with the masjid’s Imam Maulana Fazlur Rehman Waizi who approached the court over the decision. Since then the issue is lying on back-burner while the Rumi Gate dying a slow death.

Meanwhile, Imam of Tile Wali Masjid, Maulana Waizi has offered an olive branch albeit with some riders. “A retrieving wall be constructed along the border of the mosque so that no harm is done. Secondly the road should be widened towards the Gomti river so that it can take heavy volume of traffic. If they fulfill the conditions, I have no objection in using the road,” said Maulana Waizi.

Meanwhile ADM (City) and Secretary, Hussainabad and Allied Trust, OP Pathak appeared hopeful that a compromise formula will be arrived during the meeting on Thursday for giving new lease of life to the Rumi Gate.
