Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president Saif-ud-Din Soz Sunday condemned the BJP’s “ekta yatra” (unity march) to Srinagar and asked it to desist from its plan to hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk Jan 26.
Soz who had earlier called BJP’s yatra and flag hoisting as “tamasha” or a gimmick asked the BJP not to go to Lal Chowk, and, without naming anyone, said “it may be perceived as provocation by some sections and hence should be avoided”.
The PCC chief said in a statement that the BJP should join all the official functions being held at all the district headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir.
Congress units in Jammu and Kashmir have already spoken against the BJP. Two Congress ministers who are said to belong to the Soz faction in the party also condemned the BJP action.
Meanwhile, the BJP leaders are preparing here for a massive rally in Jammu to give, what they called, a “befitting reply to the anti-national forces.”
“The flag will be hoisted at Lal Chowk and the party will also hold its rally,” declared Shamsher Singh Manhas, the state president of the party, at a media conference in Jammu Sunday.
