In fact, the mother of engineer Krishna Singh refused to open the gate of her house here to this correspondent Monday. “My husband is a central government employee hailing from a very affluent class of Rajputs from Sultanpur district of UP (Uttar Pradesh), but we have not installed even a television in our house. We are a career-oriented family. Our child is an engineer. The victim is like my own daughter but she has not come forward to fight against the criminals,” she told IANS from across the locked grilled gate.

Krishna Singh’s girlfriend, whom he had befriended on the net, was allegedly gangraped by five youths in Ghaziabad in his presence Saturday night in Kamla Nehru Nagar under Kavi Nagar police station of this city.

“Krishna has been brilliant throughout his career and we are worried about his security. He is a daily commuter on this road that is prone to such incidents since local goons roam around the colony frequently. The girl who became Krishna’s friend through internet was here with him for the first time to this city. Unfortunately, I have not seen her but I am inclined to meet and apologize for what happened with her,” the mother added, but refused to reveal her name.

The mother reluctantly provided her husband’s mobile number to this correspondent. However, the father, CPWD engineer V.K. Singh refused to talk and requested that the media should not call since his son was traumatised.

The girl and her family have not approached the police. On the complaint of her boyfriend, the police have registered a case under the Indian Penal Code against five youths of Rahispur locality, falling under Kavi Nagar police station.

The police said Krishna Singh filed a complaint with the police in which he alleged that he was passing through the road near Human Resource Development Centre office in Kamla Nehru Nagar along with his girl friend. As he slowed down his motorcycle near the turn, five youths overpowered him and took the girl to the fields and gangraped her turn by turn. When he protested, they tied his hands behind his back and thrashed him till he became unconscious. He did not find anybody when he gained consciousness. The youths looted his mobile phone and Dell laptop along with Rs.450 cash. They took away the girl’s mobile phone also. Before he lost consciousness, he saw a man sexually assaulting the girl while his accomplices were standing guard.

After he gained consciousness, Krishna Singh picked up his motorcycle and reached home. After discussing the incident, he came to register the complaint.

“On the basis of physical description, a youth was taken into custody, who revealed his name as Monu and confessed to raping the girl and robbing the articles of the boy and the girl. On his tip-off, the other four accused were taken into custody and they too confessed their crime and revealed their identities as Devendra Singh, Tonu and Monu — both brothers, Jackey alias Jai Kishore Singh, and Manoj, all residents of Rahispur. The police have recovered two mobile phones and the laptop from their possession,” said Kavi Nagar Station Officer Vijay Kumar.

“The girl works as an accountant with a prestigious retail outlet in sector-63 Noida while Krishna Singh works as an engineer with a Noida-based firm. She came for the first time to Ghaziabad to meet Krishna,” said Rajendra Tyagi, a social activist.
