“The metro stations at Science City and Chingrighata of the new metro railway line between Kavi Subhas in South 24 Parganas and Dum Dum airport in North 24 Parganas will be named after journalists Barun Sengupta and Gour Kishore Ghosh,” said Mamata Banerjee at Salt Lake on the north eastern fringes of the city.

Founder-editor of Bengali newspaper Bartaman, Sengupta was a popular political critic.

Ghosh was a celebrated Bengali writer and journalist, who became senior editor of vernacular daily Anandabazar Patrika and portrayed the agony of West Bengal during the Naxalite (Maoist) movement from 1969 to 1971, in sharp satire under his pen-name, Rupadarshi.

Banerjee also laid the foundation stone of the new metro railway line.
