Siliguri : Two of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) activists were injured in the Dooars area of West Bengal Tuesday in police firing after they clashed with police. Fifteen police personnel were also injured, police said.
The clashes started when illegal camps set up by the GJM in the Shipchu area of a reserve forest area were demolished by the police.
“Two supporters of the GJM were injured in the firing. We have admitted them to the hospital. A police man received severe injuries when GJM supporters attacked him. Fifteen police personnel were also injured in the clashes with GJM workers,” said Inspector General of Police (North Bengal) R. Kumar.
The firing took place when irate GJM supporters started marching towards Jalpaiguri district, violating orders banning assembly of crowds or even five or more people.
Reacting to allegations of GJM leaders that two of their supporters were killed in the firing, Kumar said: “Right now, I don’t have any confirmation regarding it.”
