Addressing the protestors, Hamidullah Shaikh, president, SIO Mumbra, said: “The celebration of Valentine’s Day is against our culture. It is nothing but commercial exploitation of our emotions. We believe that such activities will erode moral and family values and waste our time, energy and money”.

Highlighting the purpose of protest, its organizer, Minhaj Shaikh said: “Our intention is not to do moral policing but to make the masses realize the ill effects of this culture which equates Valentine’s Day with freedom to express emotions..

“The meaning of freedom is freedom from all restraint, all rules of decency, all that holds the fabric of moral, socially responsible society together,” he further added.

Notably, the demonstration was part of weeklong campaign against V Day. Earlier SIO Mumbra created awareness against V Day through signature campaign, board writing, students meeting and gathering at various locations in Mumbra.
