Ranchi: Maharashtra’s gymnasts dominated the 34th National Games by winning seven of the 14 gold medals at stake in the event here Sunday.
The team dominated both in the rhythmic gymnastics as well as artistic gymnastics at the indoor stadium in the Hotwar Mega Sports Complex on the concluding day of the event.
Kshipra Joshi was outstanding in both the categories and ended the meet with five medals including two gold and two silver medals. She was well supported by Ahshata Shete who won three gold and a bronze medal.
The team also won the overall team championship in both the categories.
Hosts Jharkhand won its first gold medal in gymnastics with Prabhato Mandal winning the men’s pommel horse.
Jharkhand, however, did not qualify for the men’s football semi-final after losing to Goa by a solitary goal.
