Raipur : The case of a donation made by a government official to the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) was being probed by the Chhattisgarh police, state Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar informed the state assembly Monday.
The minister said this in a written reply to opposition Congress member Dharamjeet Singh who wanted to know whether any probe was launched by the police in the alleged donation by an executive engineer posted in Bastar district.
The official is in charge of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), a central government road development scheme.
Kanwar said he had written a letter to the Criminal Investigation Department to take up the probe.
The Bastar region is spread across 40,000 sq km area where several PMGSY road-projects were being held up by rebels.
Official sources say that in Dantewada and Bijapur districts of Bastar region majority of road constructions works under the PMGSY scheme were halted since 2005 due to intervention by the Maoists.
