Bamako (Mali) : At least 36 people were killed and 70 others injured Monday night in a stampede that occurred in a stadium in Mali’s capital Bamako, media reports said.
The Republic of Mali is a landlocked country in western Africa.
The accident occurred at the 25,000-seat Modibo Keita Stadium when the crowd wanted to touch a renowned imam, who had finished delivering his sermon and was proceeding to give a benediction, Xinhua reported.
Many of those injured were taken to hospitals in Bamako.
