Demand for population-wise representation for Dalit-backward sections

Thiruvananthapuram: Dalit-backward sections should be given representation according to population by both the fronts in the coming Assembly elections in Kerala, demanded the Samvarana Samudaya Munnani (alliance of the reservation communities). The Munnani also warned the fronts against giving more than 22 percent seats for the high castes (savarna) as they constitute of only 22 percent of the state’s population. The Munnani made its demands in the state committee meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram yesterday.

The Samvarana Samudaya Munnani announced that it would include the fundamental needs of the Dalit-backward sections in its election manifesto and its leaders would discuss the matters with both the fronts. The meeting also demanded in a resolution that both the LDF and the UDF should provide general seats for Dalit leaders to contest.

Kerala Dalit Federation president P Ramabhadran, Jamat Council secretary Adv Pookunju, Ezhuthachan Samajam president Prof TB Vijayakumar, MECA state president VA Seythu Muhammed, PFI general secretary Nasarudheen Elamaram, Kerala Catholic Association president Raphael Antony, Muslim Jamath Coordination convener Koottikkada Ashraf, Adv KP Justin Karippat, Muhammed Faisy, AS Kunju Muhammed, KT Joseph, Dr VK Lakshmanakumar, ASA Razak, CT Sakkeer Husain, EK Sunela Neelan, TK Raghavan, TK Mohanan, Panayath Raveendran, Adv N Santhosh and PP Raveendran spoke.
