Gujarat riots had Modi’s ‘sanction’, says Tehelka

New Delhi, Oct 25 (IANS) The Tehelka magazine said Thursday that the 2002 Gujarat sectarian riots had the “sanction” of Chief Minister Narendra Modi and that many of the accused had admitted this on camera.

Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal said here that his team had covertly caught on camera people from Hindu groups such as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) acknowledging that they killed Muslims in the state with Modi’s “approval”.

He told reporters that the issue of the magazine to hit the stands Friday would have the details of the expose.

The communal violence left more than 1,000 people, mostly Muslims, dead and thousands injured and homeless. It was one of the worst communal violence to hit India.
