Agra : A female labourer gave birth under a tree in this Uttar Pradesh city after a hospital refused to admit her. The baby died immediately after birth and the woman was admitted to the hospital after her family created a ruckus.
The incident took place early Tuesday outside the gynaecology ward of S.N. Medical College.
Lalloo Singh, from Jhabua in Madhya Pradesh, said he had come with his family to Agra only a few months ago. On Monday evening, he brought his pregnant wife Toli, 30, to the hospital.
The staff said the doctors would come only in the morning and advised him to go to Lady Loyal Hospital.
When he went to the other hospital, he was told that it was a complicated case therefore he should go back to the medical college.
According to Singh, he came back with his wife and waited for the doctors but Toli went into labour outside the out-patient department (OPD) under a tree. The new-born died immediately after birth which led to the family members creating a ruckus.
The college authorities Wednesday constituted a three-member committee headed by Mukesh Chandra, a professor, to look into the incident.
The head of the gynaecology department, Saroj Singh has, however, denied the charges by family members.
She told reporters that the foetus was only seven months old and the head had not fully formed, “therefore the death”.
