New Delhi: After repeated warnings and directions by Delhi Police to BPOs and corporates on safety of women employees who work night shifts, some companies are still flouting the norms, police said Thursday.
Police also came to know that some companies have unofficially asked the drivers to skip the routes where policemen are deputed. “They are not deploying guards with the cab to save cost,” said a senior police officer.
The fact came to notice after a driver of a prominent low-cost airline was held Wednesday for violating provisions by travelling without a security guard in cab ferrying women employees.
Rohit Gehlot, 20, was held Wednesday early morning in Chiragh Dilli in south Delhi when he was ferrying two women employees to their homes, police said.
Policemen noticed that a cab was carrying two women with no security guard in it. The cab was stopped and the driver was interrogated. “He told that the cab is used to ferry the employees of an airline from Indira Gandhi International Airport,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police H.G.S. Dhaliwal said.
The women were safely escorted to their respective residences and a case was registered.
During interrogation, Gehlot told police that his organisation is well aware of the notification issued in this regard.
“But in order to save cost, some companies do not deploy guards on the cabs ferrying women and the drivers are briefed to avoid such routes which are manned by police,” Dhaliwal said.
After a rape incident at Dhaula Kuan in south Delhi last year, Delhi Police had made it mandatory for BPOs, media houses and corporates to deploy a guard while ferrying women employees during night hours.
