New Delhi: The Congress Friday said the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ideology does not fit the framework of a secular India. The party comment came in the wake of the Supreme Court issuing notice to BJP’s senior leader L.K. Advani, Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray and others on a CBI petition challenging their discharge in the Babri Masjid demolition conspiracy case.
“The Supreme Court has gone ahead and issued notices, but I think that the larger question is that this entire matter is already settled in public perception that indeed the Sangh pariwar and the BJP had hatched a pre-mediated conspiracy to not only bring down the Babri Masjid but more importantly to assault the framework of India,” Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters here.
“As a party, their creed, their ideology and their way of thinking do not really sort of gel with the framework of a secular and pluralistic India,” he added.
An apex court bench of Justice V.S. Sirpurkar and Justice T.S. Thakur issued the notice after Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam pressed the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) petition finding fault with the high court verdict.
Advani and 20 others were discharged by the Allahabad high court May 20, 2010 in a case in which they were accused of conspiracy to demolish the 16th century Babri Masjid by radical Hindu activists, triggering widespread communal violence.
