New Delhi: The All India Muslim Majli-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), an umbrella body of Indian Muslim organizations, has mourned the sudden demise of veteran Congress leader Arjun Singh and offered condolence to his family.
The Working President of AIMMM, Dr Zafarul-Islam Khan said that the death of Congress stalwart Mr. Arjun Singh has come as a painful shock to the Muslim community as well as secular minded people of the country.
“He was a true believer in secularism, cultural pluralism and communal harmony and championed the empowerment of the poor and bravely fought against the communal forces. He firmly stood by the Muslim community during the last two decades of the Hindutva onslaught” Dr. Khan said.
“As Union HRD Minister, Mr. Singh took marked interest in the promotion of education among Muslims in particular and the downtrodden in general. He detoxified the effects of saffronisation inflicted upon textbooks and the educational system by his predecessor” he added.
Dr. Khan further said that he went out of his way to help Muslim educational institutions like Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia and played a crucial role in the promotion of Urdu, modernization of Madrasas and helped minorities to open and run their institutions of learning.
