New Delhi : The deadlock with the DMK continues, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said Monday, after a meeting to resolve the crisis following the DMK decision to pull of the Manmohan Singh government.
“Nothing has been resolved. The deadlock continues,” the health minister and Congress in-charge of Tamil Nadu told reporters after the Congress-DMK meeting.
Efforts were on to defuse the crisis sparked by the DMK’s Saturday decision with Congress leaders, including Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, meeting the DMK’s Dayanidhi Maran at parliament house.
Maran is also textiles minister, one of the six DMK ministers in New Delhi.
The DMK ministers are scheduled to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at 6 p.m. Monday to submit their resignations.
A Congress leader, who attended the meeting, said there “was no threat to the UPA II government”.
Mukherjee is also in telephonic contact with DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Congress sources said.
The DMK decided to pull out of the central government after differences over seat sharing talks for the coming assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.
The DMK has two cabinet ministers – Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister M.K. Alagiri and Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran – and four junior ministers – S.S. Palanimanickam (Finance), S. Jagathrakshakan (Information and Broadcasting), D. Napoleon (Social Justice and Empowerment) and S. Gandhiselvan (Health and Family Welfare) – in the UPA government.
