Indian automobile sales for 11 months up 26.92 percent

New Delhi: Vehicle sales in India grew by 26.92 percent in the first 11 months of the current fiscal and stood at 14.04 million as compared to 11.06 million in the like period last year.

“The cumulative sales data for April 2010-February 2011 shows domestic sales growth of 26.92 percent over the same period last year,” said the data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Wednesday.

The data indicated that the total vehicle sales (domestic) in February 2011 grew 21.32 percent over that of February 2010.

According to the data, February domestic passenger car sales grew by 22.63 percent at 189,008 units as against 154,132 units in the like period of last fiscal.

The cumulative sales for the 11 months ending February grew by 30.34 percent — with 1.78 million vehicles being sold. A total of to 1.37 million units were in the first 11 months of last fiscal year.

SIAM’s data also pointed towards a 20.8 percent growth in sales of motorcycles in the country at 776,051 units in February 2011 from 642,419 units in February 2010.

The 11-month cumulative two-wheeler sales this fiscal increased by 26.55 percent and stood at 10.69 million units as against 8.45 million units in the like period of last fiscal year.
