Man lands up outside Mamata’s home to demand railway job

By IANS,

Kolkata: Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s residence here seems to be turning into the favourite haunt of railway job aspirants. Just four days after a youth set himself ablaze outside her home as he was not given a job in the railways, a middle-aged man Thursday tried to stage a fast at the same spot to demand a railway job.

Claiming to be a Railways commission agent, Jagannath Dey came from Garbeta in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district along with his family members to meet Banerjee.

But not being allowed to meet her, he decided to sit on a fast.

He was finally persuaded to go home by some Trinamool Youth Congress workers.

“Earlier, I used to sell railway tickets at a halt station after bringing them from Garbeta. I used to get 12 percent commission for that. I sold tickets for last 48 years. But in February, railway officials asked me to leave the halt station, saying that my contract with the railways ended,” Dey said.

“I want a job in the railways. I came here several times to meet the minister. But every time I had been told to submit an application.

“Nowadays, the railway is doing so many things, cannot they save a destitute family,” he asked.

Trinamool Youth Congress leaders, however, alleged that the incident was a prank of the ruling Marxists.
