Agra: Agra has banned Holi celebrations near its famed monuments, the Taj Mahal included.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) warned people against throwing colours at the monuments.
In order to enforce the fiat, police vehicles went around Agra warning that those on the roads under the influence of alcohol would be detained.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was deployed to ensure that no one entered the monuments armed with Holi colours.
“Even those wearing colour-splashed clothes will be discouraged from entering,” a police official said.
A virtual ban on entry of heavy vehicles to Agra for 30 hours has dropped the number of visitors substantially.
