Punjab approves cash-less insurance for police

By IANS,

Chandigarh : In a move that will benefit over 70,000 personnel of Punjab Police, the state government has approved a cash-less insurance scheme for them that will include small hospital procedures for dialysis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and eye surgery, an official said Monday.

The families and dependents, including dependant parents, will benefit from the scheme. This is in addition to the monthly fixed medical allowance as per existing norms, the official added.

“This will replace the cumbersome medical reimbursement scheme. The personnel will be able to avail of medical facilities in leading private hospitals,” a state government spokesperson said here Monday.

Terming it as the first of its kind initiative in the country, the official said that police personnel will benefit greatly from the scheme.

“Each personnel has been insured for Rs.2 lakh per year and this insurance would also cover surgeries needing less than 24-hour hospitalization in the cases of dialysis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, eye-surgery, lithotripsy, tonsillectomy and coronary angiography,” he said.

The Punjab government has sanctioned Rs.25 crore for this scheme.

Punjab Police have already invited expression of interest from reputed insurance companies to handle the scheme.
