Ahmedabad:India’s dashing opener Virender Sehwag is doubtful for Thursday’s high-voltage World Cup quarterfinal against defending champions Australia.
A right knee problem forced Sehwag to miss India’s last group game against the West Indies. Indian skiper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said the team management is yet to take a call on the Delhi Dasher.
“We will take a call on Virender Sehwag later this evening or tomorrow morning before the start of the game. All others are fit and available for selection,” Dhoni said during the match-eve media conference at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera here.
Dhoni said missing their in-from batsman would be a setback for the team against the defending champions.
“It’s really good to have Virender Sehwag opening the innings. He can play an aggressive game. He can change the course of the game in the first five overs, give the team the kind of momentum that is needed,” said Dhoni.
Sehwag is India’s leading scorer in the tournament with 327 runs. His highest in the tournament was 175 against Bangladesh in the opening match.
