“Let me make one thing very clear. Even if Karunakaran returns to the Congress party, I and the state unit of the NCP under no circumstances will return. If he wants he is free to join the Congress, I will never go,” Muraleedharan told reporters here Saturday.

He said the question of joining the Congress does not arise as it (Congress) cheated them when they became its ally in the 2006 assembly polls.

“After being ditched by both the rival fronts here, we are grateful to the NCP leadership for allowing our Democratic Indira Congress-Karunakaran to merge with the party. So the question of going against the national leadership does not arise,” reiterated Muraleedharan.

Meanwhile Karunakaran, who arrived here from Delhi, said that any decision to join the Congress would be taken only after taking into account the feelings of his supporters.

Reacting to Muraleedharan’s statement, his one-time close confidant Rajmohan Unnithan said that the Congress party has never ditched Muraleedharan.

“If Karunakaran decides to return to the Congress, Muraleedharan would be left alone because all the supporters would follow Karunakaran,” he told IANS.
