London : Many schools in Britain have banned the distribution of the Bible to avoid upsetting other faiths, a media report said.
The Gideons International, an organisation dedicated to distribution of the Bible, gives out free copies printed in 94 languages.
Founded in 1899, it began giving away free Bibles in 1908. Nearly 1.7 billion copies have been distributed till date.
However, the group has now been told to stay away from schools because officials said it may spark complaints from people of different faith, the Daily Mail reported.
The decision has come under attack.
“We live in a Christian country. I think that if the Gideons want to offer Bibles to children, then they should be allowed to do so,” a Gideons supporter said.
