Mumbai: Well, finally, the state government gifted Mumbaikers a holiday for the
World Cup final on Saturday, April, 02. “The government has declared a local holiday in the city and suburban district for government and semi-government offices on April 2,” an official said. But Mumbai University has decided otherwise and will go ahead with its exam schedule.
The decision to give off for the Mahasangram of Cricket, was taken on Thursday when Mumbai police requested the government to declare Saturday, a holiday, to reduce the movement of crowd in the city, particularly south Mumbai where the Wankhede stadium is located. India will take on Sri Lanka in the World Cup final in the stadium.
President, Ms.Pratibha Patil, and her Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa, are expected to watch the match together.
