Jammu : Two Hizbul Muhahideen militants were killed in Jammu and Kashmir Monday when soldiers surrounded their hideout and fired at them.
Defence sources here said the incident took place in Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, where soldiers have stepped up their offensive against militants in the state ahead of winter.
Ashraf Bhat and Zaffar Hussain were holed up in Chatroo, a mountainous and densely forested area, when the gunbattle took place, defence spokesperson Lt. Col. S.D. Goswami said.
He added that the dead militants were a byword for terror in the area and were responsible for many incidents of violence and extortion.
