If candidate attacked in Bihar, rival to be suspect

Patna : If a candidate is attacked or intimidated in Bihar’s upcoming panchayat polls, then his rival will be named in the police report, the state election commission has ruled.

State Election Commissioner J.K. Dutta said Friday that all the district magistrates and superintendents of police have been directed to lodge first information reports (FIRs) against people involved in violence or intimidation of candidates during the election.

“The district officials have been ordered to take tough action against people found to be involved in violence or intimidation of candidates during panchayat polls,” Dutta told IANS.

The 10-phased election panchayat polls will start April 20 and end May 28
