Kolkata : No comparison can be made between the arrests of CPI-M leader Majid Ali and Trinamool Congress candidate Subhranshu Roy as the former is a “dreaded criminal”, West Bengal Congress president Manas Bhunia said Monday.
Subhranshu Roy, son of union Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy and a Trinamool Congress candidate in the assembly polls, was Sunday arrested from an election meeting in West Bengal for allegedly assaulting poll officials, police said.
The rally was addressed by Trinamool chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“From where who will be arrested is not the matter a leader should keep track of. But you cannot compare Majid Ali with Subhranshu Roy as Shubranshu is a small boy, he had done a very small thing, whereas Majid Ali alias Majid Master is a dreaded criminal and his hands are soaked in blood,” Bhunia said while interacting with reporters here.
Subhranshu has been charged with instigating a mob that attacked Election Commission officials in Boldeghata area of the Bijpur assembly constituency April 12. An arrest warrant was issued against Roy.
Earlier, the Trinamool Congress had complained to the West Bengal chief electoral officer (CEO) about a CPI-M leader wanted in several cases who was roaming free and even met Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at the CPI-M state headquarters here.
Trinamool general secretary and Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy complained to CEO Sunil Gupta that the CPI-M leader from North 24-Parganas, Majid Ali, was not arrested even though several arrest warrants were pending against him.
“Majid Master was later arrested, but after lot of drama by our Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. We thought that before going out of power he would act tough, but we were proved wrong,” said Bhunia.
