Haryana twin murder: Weapons not traced

By IANS,

Bhiwani : More than three days since this Haryana district was rocked by the gruesome murder of two widows, police have not been able to trace the sticks or sharp weapons used in the honour killing.

“We have got the post-mortem examination report. The women had died because of deep injuries that were made by using sticks or sharp-edged weapons. We are trying to trace the weapons used in the crime,” investigation officer Japan Singh said Thursday.

Earlier Monday, police arrested Naresh, 23, a convicted rapist out on bail, and his 22-year-old cousin Subhash for brutally beating his own aunt Shakuntala, 40, and another widow, Suman, 35, to death in the name of family honour.

The horrific crime was committed Sunday night in front of at least 200 villagers, including dozens of women, but nobody came to the two women’s rescue. However, after committing the crime, the two men surrendered to police and confessed.

Police are working on various theories. They are also looking into the angle of illicit relationship between Suman and Subhash’s brother Sudhir.

“The accused were unhappy as Sudhir was having an illicit relation with Suman and was providing monetary help to her and to Shakuntala. Before killing the two women, Naresh and Subhash had gone to Sudhir and had also thrashed him,” Singh stated.
