New Delhi : In a veiled message to civil society representatives on the joint drafting committee on the Lokpal Bill, the Congress said Thursday that people were likely to judge them by the yardstick they wanted to apply on others.
“If you do attempt to measure society and individuals by certain moral yardsticks, then obviously there is a need to introspect whether you measure up to that yardstick,” party spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters here.
Asked if former law minister Shanti Bhushan should quit the 10-member joint committee on the Lokpal Bill following the CD controversy and issue of land allotment in Noida, Tewari said he was not indicating towards any individual or any institution but was making a generic comment.
Asked about reports that a laboratory had found that the CD was not doctored, Tewari said the Congress was not in the habit of giving running commentary on ongoing investigations into a criminal case.
On remarks of Karnataka Lokayutka Santosh Hegde about a smear camapaign against the drafting committee members, Tewari said he would not like to join issue with him.
The spokesman, however, added that “corruption had continued in a big way in Karnataka” and people of the country will decide when the time time comes. Asked whether he was indicating that Hegde as Lokayaukta had not done enough, Tewari said he was was not making any insinuation or comments.
