Punjab Public Service Commission chief dies

Mohali (Punjab) : S.K. Sinha, chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), died of a liver-related ailment at a private hospital here early Thursday, said hospital officials.

Sinha, who was in his 60s, was admitted to Fortis hospital here April 16. He had earlier been admitted to a hospital in Patiala. Doctors said Sinha was suffering from a liver-related ailment.

Sinha, who was a close aide of former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh and was a principal secretary in his government, was elected PPSC chairman in May 2006.

A former Indian Administrative Service officer, he did not enjoy good relations with current Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal as he had publicly accused him and his associates of interfering in the selections made through PPSC.
