BAKU, October 31 (RIA Novosti) – The American Embassy in Azerbaijan will resume work on Wednesday, after being closed for two days due to reports of a planned terrorist attack, embassy spokesman Jonathan Henick said.
On Monday, the embassy informed U.S. citizens living in the ex-Soviet Caspian country that it would be closed following the arrests of several members of a Wahhabi Islamist group that had planned to attack the building.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said the plotters had been tracked down Monday during an operation in the village of Mstaga, some 20 miles northeast of the capital, Baku. One member of the group put up armed resistance and was killed.
Following the arrests, the British Embassy in Baku also closed down.
