Kalmadi’s custody extended till June 1

New Delhi: A Delhi court Wednesday extended the judicial custody till June 1 of former CWG Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi, blamed for alleged irregularities in awarding the contract for TSR (timing scoring and result) system to Swiss Timing at exorbitant rates.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge Talwant Singh said: “Accused Kalmadi’s judicial custody is further extended till June 1.”

Meanwhile, senior advocate U.U. Lalit, appearing for Kalmadi has sought permission from the court for allowing his client to be produced through video conferencing.

The court is to decide on it May 21.

Kalmadi is lodged in Tihar jail since May 4. He was arrested by the CBI April 25 along with OC Joint Director General (Sport) A.S.V Prasad and OC Deputy Director General (Procurement) Surjit Lal for allegedly buying TSR (timing scoring and result) equipment from Swiss Timing at inflated price of Rs.141 crore for the mega sporting event.

The court has also extended the judicial custody for Prasad and Lal till June 1.

The court will also pronounce its verdict on the bail plea of Kalmadi May 21.
