Plane crash: Dr Arshad, patient Rahul among 10 dead

Patna: A small private aircraft carrying seven people including two pilots crashed into a residential area in Faridabad’s Sector 22 around 10.45 pm on Wednesday, killing all on board and three others on the ground. The victims on board included a patient, one attendant, two doctors, one male nurse and two pilots.

The aircraft with registration number VT-ACF was operating as an air ambulance for Apollo. It had taken off from Patna at 8:33 pm but minutes before landing in Delhi at 11 pm it fell on two houses in the middle of Parvatia Colony, near Jawahar Colony, and immediately burst into flames. Bad weather and engine failure have been reported as the cause of the incident.

Those killed were 22-year-old patient, Rahul Raj, his cousin Ratnesh Kumar, Dr Rajesh, Dr Arshad, Captain Harpreet, co-pilot Manpreet Kataria, and male nurse Cyril. Raj and Kumar were residents of Bettiah in West Champaran district of Bihar.

According to news reports, Rahul Raj had been admitted in the ICU at Patna’s Jagdish Memorial Hospital and was on ventilator support. He was being brought to Delhi for treatment at Apollo Hospital.

So far three women have been reported as ground casualties. The toll may go up as the site was densely populated area.
