New Delhi : Plagued by nearly a dozen crashes annually, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has developed an indigenous software for predicting accidents involving its aircraft fleet, aiming to curb the trend.
Called the Accident Probability Factor Calculator (APFC), the software is a one of its kind and would be used extensively by its air safety directorate to prevent air crashes, an IAF press release said here Friday.
“Towards achieving a safer flying environment, the IAF has indigenously developed a software called the APFC, which will be used for predicting flying accidents. The unique software was developed by experts at the Directorate of Aerospace Safety at the Air Headquarters,” the release said.
The development of the software was supervised by IAF’s Director General (Inspection and Safety) Air Marshal A.S. Karnick, who also launched and dedicated the online system here in the presence of safety specialists from the army, navy, coast guard and Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
“The APFC uses mathematical algorithms to analyse archived data of last 30 years for prediction of accident probabilities,” the release said.
“This software is an outcome of the IAF’s constant endeavour towards using effective preventive measures at its bases to reduce flying accidents. This programme is of critical value for the IAF and the concept can be adapted for accident/disaster prevention by agencies involved in this field,” it added.
