Ahmedabad : Calling it a “black day in history”, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Sunday blamed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the midnight crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev.
“Manmohan Singhji, the country is not ready to believe that you are not involved in this. These atrocities are going on under your rule. Police is (controlled by the) Manmohan Singh government in Delhi, not under (Delhi Chief Minister) Sheila Dikshit,” Modi said.
“This is a black day,” he said.
Police cracked down on Ramdev and his supporters in New Delhi’s Ramlila ground after midnight Saturday and forcibly removed the yoga guru from the site. He was then evicted from the capital.
“Manmohan Singhji, this innocent face of yours will tell every time when there’s a crisis, that you don’t know… Such gimmicks will not be forgiven by the country.
“You are responsible for this. If you are the prime minister, then show your strength. If you are not involved, then tell the country.
“This was not an agitation against one party, this was not an agitation against one government. This is an effort to rescue the nation from a rotten system,” the Bharatiya Janata Party leader added.
He said the protest against corruption should continue. “We are with Baba Ramdev in his cause.”
