Mumbai: The city’s longest flyover of 2.5 km was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan Monday.
The flyover will enable motorists to cut short the travel time from Sion to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), a highly congested thoroughfare in south-central Mumbai, by 25 minutes, a top official said.
The flyover will help vehicles bypass as many as seven vehicular and two pedestrian signals and cut down the travel time to less than half, said Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) Commissioner Rahul Asthana.
The flyover was constructed at a cost of Rs.150 crore, he added.
“The other three flyovers on this road will help motorists avoid a total of 18 signals,” Asthana said.
