Ranchi : Eight people were arrested and sent Thursday to 14 days judicial custody in a Ranchi Regional Development Authority (RRDA) building scam, sources said.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested five officials of RRDA, two builders and one hotelier Wednesday night. They were presented in a Ranchi court Thursday which sent them to 14 days judicial custody.
“RRDA officials approved building plans after taking bribe from builders, owners of hotels and other people. The buildings were approved ignoring RRDA norms,” a CBI source told IANS.
The arrested RRDA officials have been identified as vigilance officer Mannawar Alam, head assistant Umesh Singh, former town planners Ram Kumar Singh and Shankar Prasad and former secretary Ajay Shekhar.
The arrested builders have been named as Bibhuti Bhushan and Vijay Singh. CBI also arrested Vinay Prakash, owner of a Ranchi hotel.
CBI is investigating around 2,600 building plans approved by RRDA following a Jharkhand High Court directive.
