Mumbai : Indian stock markets opened on a firm note Tuesday with broad-based buying witnessed in early trades.
At 10.54 a.m., the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was up 210.94 points or 1.08 percent at 19,801.72, and the Nifty was up 72.25 points or 1.24 percent at 5919.55.
About 1,958 shares have advanced, 1,012 shares declined, and 92 shares are unchanged. The breadth of the market was inclined towards the advancing stocks with over 830 stocks on the advancing side and about 247 stocks on the downside. Indian rupee was quoting at 39.31 against a US dollar.
Top gainers on the Sensex were Hindalco at Rs.188 up by 2.40 percent; Larsen & Toubro at Rs.4,383 scaled up 2.23 percent; ONGC at Rs.1,327.50 moved up 2.19 percent.
Top losers on the Sensex were GlaxoSmithKline at Rs.1,036.25 down by 0.91 percent and Tata Motors at Rs.740.05 down 0.01 percent.
