Ranchi(IANS) : Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has got embroiled in a legal battle over the construction of a swimming pool in his house in the Jharkhand’s capital here.
The Jharkhand High Court Tuesday issued notices to Dhoni and the state government asking them to file replies to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed against the construction of a swimming pool in the premises of a house that the cricketer is building at the Harmu housing colony.
Residents of the colony have filed the PIL on the grounds that the swimming pool would use up a lot of water and cause water scarcity in the colony.
A division bench comprising chief justice M.K. Vinayagam and justice D.K Sinha issued the notice asking both Dhoni and the state government to reply within four weeks.
Earlier, the colony residents had sent a petition to the Ranchi Regional Development Authority (RRDA) seeking a change in the approved plan of the house with the removal of the swimming pool.
The RRDA constituted a team, which found no reason to ban the construction of the pool because there was sufficient water in the area. The residents then went to the high court.
“RRDA passed the map without taking into the consideration the relevant point of availability of water. The area faces water scarcity during summer and the swimming pool would further compound the woes of the residents,” says the petition.
The residents also claim that the RRDA passed the plan of the house in just one day without verifying the facts.
Dhoni is building the house on a plot of around 5,000 sq. ft. that the Jharkhand government gifted him in recognition of his sporting achievements.
