New Delhi : A 21-year-old man who submitted forged documents when he appeared in an exam for pilot licence was arrested here on the basis of a complaint from the Directorate General of Civil aviation (DGCA), police said Wednesday.
Gaurav Jain, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, was arrested in Delhi Tuesday on the basis of a complaint received April 1 from D.C. Sharma, Director, Training and Licensing, Civil Aviation Department.
“There was a complaint regarding submission of forged documents by Jain while applying for a commercial pilot licence (CPL),” a police official said.
According to police, Jain got his commercial pilot’s licence from Canada November 2009. To get it converted to an Indian licence he appeared in the pilot licence examinations conducted by the DGCA a few months later.
“But he failed in one of the two papers. He again appeared January 2010 but failed again,” said the police official.
He met a pilot, Manoj Dhaka, who assured him a licence for the payment of Rs.30,000 to which Jain agreed. Hence, Dhaka submitted the forged documents in the DGCA in April 2010 and Jain got the license June 2010, police said.
“Dhaka is an accused in another similar case but is absconding,” said police.
According to police, so far 13 pilots, four touts and three DGCA officials have been arrested for their involvement is the fake licence scam while five pilots are still untraced and on the run.
