“Power plants set up with Chinese equipment have not shown better performance than those using equipments supplied by BHEL. In fact, Chinese supplied equipment have inferior heat rates (efficiencies) and the auxiliaries consume more power than that of BHEL,” Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Praful Patel told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

The minister also said that while the secondary fuel oil consumption of Chinese equipment is also more, the time taken from synchronization to commercial operations also exceeds that of BHEL equipment.

Comparing average plant load factor for the last three years, the minister said that while it is as low as 68 percent of units of Chinese make, it is 79 percent for BHEL.
