Srinagar : Unidentified masked gunmen Wednesday robbed a local bank in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, decamping with over Rs.5 lakh (half a million).
A senior police officer said: “Some unknown masked gunmen this afternoon barged into J&K Bank’s Harmain Branch in Shopian and decamped with about Rs.5.45 lakh in currency notes.”
“The robbers fired a few rounds in the air before fleeing from the spot.
“Police have registered a case and further investigations are on,” the official said.
During the peak of separatist violence in mid-1990s, gunmen robbed millions of rupees from many bank branches in the Kashmir Valley.
