New Delhi : Uranium discovered in Andhra Pradesh will help India increase nuclear installed capacity, providing more electricity for the country’s economic growth, parliament was told Thursday.
Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office V.Narayanasamy told the Rajya Sabha in a statement that the Department of Atomic Energy had established a presence of 63,269 tonnes of uranium resources.
The discovery was made in Tumallapalle area in Kadapa district.
The minister said the Uranium Corp of India had undertaken to builD an underground mine and plant, to be commissioned by 2012.
“The pre-project activities for augmenting the production and processing capacity … are in progress and expected to be commissioned by 2015,” he added.
