London : England coach Andy Flower insisted his team’s convincing 4-0 win over India in the Test series came against a very good visiting side and his boys should be lauded for their achievement.
The Indian team has drawn scathing criticism from various quarters after their meek surrender to the English but Flower feels his players should get their due for beating a “hugely experienced outfit”.
“They have dominated a very good side here, and I don’t think we should forget that,” Flower was quoted as saying by The Daily Telegraph Wednesday.
“There are some very fine cricketers in that Indian side, and they have been performing at a high level for a very long time.
“They are hugely experienced – so to play like we did and to dominate them like we did is a great credit to these England players.”
Flower is a satisfied man after England’s rise to the top in the Test rankings and said it is the players who should be credited for executing plans on the field.
“It gives me tremendous satisfaction, but it is the players we have to think about. I looked at them in the changing room after the game, and they can rightly feel very proud of themselves.
“They have put in a tremendous amount of hard work to get themselves into a place where they feel very confident and where they are making good decisions – and they are good enough to back them up out in the middle.
“It is nice to see the team like that and see them genuinely confident and it is nice to see them believing that they will win games,” he said.
