London : An increase in migration applications from Pakistan and Libya has led to net migration to Britain shooting up more than 20 percent from the previous year’s figure.
Net migration to the country in 2010 was 239,000, an increase from 198,000 in 2009, figures from the Office of National Statistics have shown.
Studying in Britain was the most common reason for migrants going there. Three out of four of the 228,000 who came to study were from outside the European Union, Sky News reported.
The report, however, did not specify the number of Pakistani people applying for migration to Britain.
The statistics also reveal the number of people coming for a definite job was at its lowest in over six years, at 110,000.
