New Delhi : Blaming Anna Hazare’s supporters for inconveniencing Delhiites, the Delhi traffic police’s bid to gather support on a social networking site backfired Friday as many accused it of being biased.
The traffic police, on its Facebook account raised questions on Hazare’s supporters and asked its thousands of followers whether protesters should be allowed to assemble in an area where prohibitory orders are imposed.
“Should there be call to gherao (surround) PM (prime minister) house when there are prohibitory orders in place and should general public be made to suffer,” asked the traffic police Friday morning.
The police cited the large number of crowds as the reason behind blocking of roads and shutting down of four Metro stations, which led to severe congestion across the city on Thursday.
“Commuters had to undergo tremendous hardships… People had to take detours and who knows many aged, sick and those in a hurry must have suffered physically and emotionally,” the traffic police posted.
Usually applauded for its prompt online advisories and prosecutions, this particular message did not go down well with most of its followers and almost all the responses were negative as the traffic police were lambasted and accused of maintaining “double standards” and being “a tool of the ruling party”.
“Normal life was disturbed for few hours because of the ‘GHERAO’ but because of corruption our whole country is in trouble. How can anyone say that this is an irresponsible act? What about the time when we guys get stuck in a political rally,” asked Jitendra Kumar
Agreed Anant Natha Jha. “It’s very sad to see that the police have become a tool of convenience for the ruling party.”
“We have been suffering for the past 64 years now… One or two days don’t make any difference to our lives,” posted Vinod Kumar Sharma.
But there were some like Sanjay Seth who was denounced Team Anna and accused the protesters of breaking the law.
“Last night at India Gate, it was just a pathetic situation. No rule of law. I don’t understand what nonsense is going on,” posted Seth.
He also questioned the motive behind Hazare’s agitation and termed it “blackmail”.
“People must understand the hidden agenda behind this blackmailing and holding the nation to ransom. We all should denounce this act by Anna and his team,” said Seth.
