New Delhi: Hundreds of rickshaw pullers and laborers of Muslim-dominated Jamia Nagar area of the National Capital broke their fast at an Iftar party hosted by Human Welfare Foundation (HWF), an NGO, on 27th August at the sprawling Milli Model School campus in Abul Fazl Enclave locality.
HWF, a national NGO, is working to uplift weaker sections of the society educationally, economically and socially. Since its inception it has been organising Iftar Party for rickshaw pullers and labourers. Under its Vision 2016 programme, HWF today organised the Iftar Party for 550 rickshaw pullers and labourers of Okhla.
At the occasion, the people were given a brief lecture on the teachings of Islam. They were told how they can implement those teachings on them. They were also taught as to how to become more neat and clean and live hygienic life which is most important in Islam. Maulana Abdus Salam Islahi of Jammat-e-Islami Hind delivered the speech.
National Coordinator of HWF’s Vision 2016 Program, Mr Salimullah Khan, Convenor of model village project of the NGO, Mr Habib Rahman and many respected persons of the area broke their fast along with the poor people. .
The organizers also distributed a set of Kurta and Pajama to all rickshaw pullers and labourers present at the Iftar so that they can wear new clothes on Eid and enjoy the festival as common people.
Earlier, HWF has distributed rickshaws among rickshaw pullers. The rickshaw distribution programme is under self employment scheme of HWF.
Meanwhile, Human Welfare Trust, an associate group of HWF, has reached an agreement with manager of Indian Bank’s Jamia branch to open zero balance saving account for rickshaw pullers with minimum documents along with ATM facilities. One of the rickshaw pullers got his ATM from branch manager Saeed Mohammad on this occasion. The Trust is also preparing a data base of the rickshaw pullers in the area with essential details so as to use the same for further interventions like adult education, health insurance, medical check-up and micro loan facilities.
