Tehran : Iran will build its first geothermal power plant in the northwestern part of the country.
The five-megawatt plant will be built in Meshkin-Shahr town. The wells have been drilled, the ISNA news agency reported Sunday.
Geothermal plants convert heat from earth to electricity. The energy is accessed by drilling water or steam wells in a process similar to drilling for oil.
They use components like other standard power generating plants such as turbines, generators, and transformers.
