Islamabad : Pakistani Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani will visit Britain in the last week of September for discussions on military ties between the two countries.
Kayani’s visit is expected to give a new direction to the military relations between his country and Britain, which is playing an important role in the war against Taliban in Afghanistan, the Urdu daily Jang reported Monday.
According to diplomatic sources, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has cleared Kayani’s trip to London, it added. No other details were immediately available.
The trip assumes added significance given the growing chill in the relationship between Pakistan and the US ever since the May 2 killing of Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in his safehouse in Abbotabad city and the killing of three Pakistanis in Lahore by a CIA operative, it said.
Military aid from the US has virtually dried up since then, Jang noted.
